1. Venue, Date & General Information

  • The PEDICON 2027 Shuttle Badminton Championship will be held at PSG IMSR, Coimbatore, on 27 January 2027.
  • Matches will commence from 7:00 AM onwards.
  • Fixtures, draws and match schedules will be prepared and published by the Organizing Committee before the tournament commences.
  • Participation is open only to IAP Life Members.
  • Accommodation, wherever arranged by the Organizing Committee, will be provided only to registered players on a sharing basis, subject to availability and applicable arrangements.
  • Refreshments and drinking water will be provided to all registered tournament participants.
  • Each State IAP Branch may nominate a maximum of 10 players.

2. Categories

  • Men’s Singles — Below 50 Years.
  • Men’s Singles — 50 Years & Above.
  • Men’s Doubles — 50 Years & Above.
  • Men’s Open Doubles.
  • Women’s Singles — Open.
  • Women’s Doubles — Open.
  • Mixed Doubles — Open.

3. Age Eligibility (50 Years & Above Categories)

  • Age eligibility is determined as on 1 January 2027. Participants must have completed 50 years of age as on that date.
  • Valid Aadhaar Card/Proof of Date of Birth must be produced by participants in the 50 Years & Above categories for age verification.
  • The Organizing Committee may request age proof from any participant at any stage of the tournament.

4. Eligibility

  • Participation is restricted to IAP Life Members. Each participant shall represent only one State IAP Branch throughout the championship and may not represent more than one Branch in the same tournament.
  • Each State IAP Branch may nominate a maximum of 10 players. A player may participate in a maximum of three categories only.
  • Players may participate only in eligible categories, subject to the maximum State quota and tournament schedule.
  • The Organizing Committee may verify IAP membership status, age and other eligibility details.
  • Misrepresentation, incorrect information, violation of eligibility criteria or breach of tournament regulations may result in disqualification of the participant and/or team.
  • The Organizing Committee's eligibility decision is final and binding.

5. Registration

  • Each State IAP Branch shall submit the final nominated player list to the Organizing Committee on or before 31 October 2026.
  • Details required for each participant: full name, mobile number, email address, Central IAP Membership Number, State IAP Branch and category/categories of participation.
  • All registration details must be complete and accurate.
  • Changes to registered player/team composition after the closing date require prior approval of the Organizing Committee.
  • The Organizing Committee may reject incomplete or ineligible registrations.

6. Team Composition

  • Each doubles team shall consist of two registered players. Doubles players must be registered within the prescribed registration period.
  • No substitute player is permitted after commencement of the tournament.
  • Any doubles partnership change after the registration deadline requires prior approval of the Organizing Committee.

7. Reporting, Court Calling & Walkover

  • Players/teams are requested to be present at the designated court at least 30 minutes before their scheduled match.
  • Players must remain attentive to court announcements and match calls and report promptly when called.
  • If a player/team is not available at the designated court within 15 minutes of being called, the match will be scratched and the opponent awarded a walkover.
  • The Tournament Referee may consider exceptional circumstances at their discretion. The walkover decision is final and binding.

8. Tournament Format & Scoring System

  • The format is determined by the number of entries in each category.
  • The Organizing Committee may modify the draw, format, number of rounds, match structure or scoring system to ensure smooth and fair conduct.
  • Scoring system as printed in the source PDF: “30 points - Single Game upto League stages.”
  • “< 50 yrs”: semifinal and final — 21 points, best of three games.
  • “> 50 yrs”: up to semifinals — 30 points, single game; final — 21 points, best of three games.
  • The scoring labels above reproduce the PDF wording; the category list uses “50 Years & Above”. Please contact the organisers for clarification of scoring for players aged exactly 50.

9. Laws of the Game

  • All matches shall follow the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Laws of Badminton, except where the Organizing Committee makes specific modifications for this championship.
  • Participants must comply with instructions from the Referee, Umpires and authorized tournament officials.

10. Shuttlecock & Equipment

  • Official shuttlecock: Yonex AS-2 Feather Shuttlecock.
  • Shuttlecocks for official matches will be supplied by the Organizing Committee.
  • Players must bring their own badminton racquets and personal playing equipment, including grips, towels and water bottles.
  • Players are responsible for ensuring equipment complies with applicable badminton regulations.

11. Match Officials

  • Referees, umpires and other match officials will be appointed by the Organizing Committee.
  • The Referee/Umpire may enforce tournament rules and maintain proper conduct during the match.
  • Participants shall respect decisions made during play. The Tournament Referee's decision is final in matters arising during the match.

12. Dress Code

  • Official PEDICON 2027 Tournament T-shirts will be provided to registered players.
  • Appropriate badminton/sports attire and non-marking badminton shoes are compulsory.
  • Players may be denied participation if officials consider their attire or footwear inappropriate or unsafe.

13. Protests & Appeals

  • Any match protest must be submitted in writing within 15 minutes of completion of the match. A ₹1,000 protest fee applies.
  • The fee is refunded if the Tournament Committee upholds the protest and forfeited if rejected.
  • Late protests may not be considered. The Tournament Committee's decision on all protests and appeals is final and binding.

14. Code of Conduct

  • All participants shall maintain discipline, courtesy and sportsmanship throughout the championship.
  • Abusive language, threatening behaviour, physical misconduct, deliberate equipment damage or unsporting conduct towards opponents, officials, volunteers or organizers will not be tolerated.
  • Serious misconduct may result in warning, penalty, suspension or disqualification, depending on the offence.
  • Mobile phones must be kept on silent during matches. Players must comply with tournament officials' instructions at all times.

15. Interrupted / Suspended / Abandoned Matches

  • For interruptions or incomplete matches due to technical problems, power failure, venue issues, weather, medical emergencies or other unforeseen circumstances, the Organizing Committee/Tournament Referee determines the appropriate action.
  • A match may be resumed from the point of interruption, rescheduled, replayed or decided by another method deemed appropriate by the Organizing Committee.
  • The Organizing Committee/Tournament Referee's decision is final and binding.

16. Medical & Safety

  • Participation is at the participant's own risk. Basic first aid and medical assistance will be available at the venue.
  • Participants are advised to ensure they are physically and medically fit for competitive badminton.
  • Participants should immediately inform officials of any injury or medical emergency during the tournament.

17. Awards & Prizes

  • Each category: Winner, Runner-up, Third Prize – 1 and Third Prize – 2.
  • Two Third Prizes will be awarded to the losing semifinalists.

18. Conference Registration

  • PEDICON 2027 conference registration is mandatory for all players participating in the Shuttle Badminton Championship.
  • All registered tournament players will be eligible for the Early Bird Conference Registration Tariff, subject to applicable Early Bird registration terms and conditions.
  • Early Bird eligibility is subject to conference registration guidelines announced by the PEDICON 2027 Organizing Committee.

19. General Provisions

  • The Organizing Committee may amend, modify or supplement these rules in the interest of fair play, participant safety and smooth conduct of the championship.
  • Matters not specifically covered shall be decided by the PEDICON 2027 Sports Committee/Organizing Committee. Its decision is final and binding on all participants.
  • Registration and participation are deemed acceptance of these Official Rules & Regulations.
